Gran Turismo 4

Gran Turismo 4 Pole position, fastest lap, whatever, GT4's number one.

What's the concept?

It's the latest version of the world's best-selling driving game featuring more than 500 cars and 100 tracks.

What's it like?

If you have petrol for blood, this is the perfect game. The vehicle selection includes everything from classic sports models to mid-80s Volvo estates, and every car is infinitely customisable. Sadly, there are some problems, though – the cars never suffer any damage and your opponents just drive around the track in predetermined patterns. Also, the much-vaunted online mode has been dropped completely.

Worth playing?

If you're just looking for a good game, you should probably avoid it. Racing the computer-controlled drivers offers no kind of enjoyment, the controls can seem inaccurate and the lack of any car damage breaks the spell cast by the super-realistic graphics and handling. Still, there's no doubting the mighty achievement this title represents.
